School children living in Coronado homes seek new ways to green their life and learning and applying the living green practices at school.  Below are a few ways you can apply what our children are learning about living green in your Coronado home.

Water

     * Fix any dripping or leaky faucets, toilets or pipes. It may not look like a lot of water drop by drop, but the wasted water adds up quickly over time.  You can also save by installing water saving showerheads.

Energy

     * Install a programmable thermostat for your home that will use less heat or A/C when you are asleep or away from home.

    * Use compact fluorescent light bulbs.

    * Insulate your water heater and pipes. 

    * Use weather stripping and caulk to seal your home from air leaks.

    * Change your air filters monthly.

    * Buy locally - it's good for the local economy.

Toxics

    * Use non-toxic cleaning agents in your home.

    * Purchase furniture made of natural fibers like wood, metal and glass.

    * Avoid the use of PVC or vinyl in your home.

    * Make sure your furnace, fireplace and gas heater are serviced regularly.

Waste

    * Bring your own grocery bags to the grocery store.  Use plastic bags several times or until they are worn out.

     * Compost your food waste and use it as soil that is full of nutrients for your lawn and garden.

    * Purchase reusable mugs, lunch containers, batteries, pens, razors, etc. rather than single use disposables.
