Not only is the pristine white beach and crystal blue water breathtaking, but the sites and history are endless. Coronado Beach is a wonderful place to spend the day. Just over the Bay Bridge from downtown San Diego, the beach is home to the infamous Hotel Del Coronado - scene of the film Some Like it Hot, it has hosted the rich and famous for many years from film stars to Presidents. The hotel forms the backdrop to the beach and looks out over the azure blue Pacific Ocean. Of the 2 times we visited the beach we saw some dolphins swimming in the sea. Suffice to say we were rather pleased that they weren't great whites! Apparently later on in the year, whales can be spotted migrating along the coast. The beach is a very clean, wide expanse of brilliant white sand and is very popular with families and couple alike. The north end of the beach is home to a naval base so on occasions there is a lot of aircraft noise but if you're a geek like me, then the sight of 2 active F18's coming into land just adds to your enjoyment. Bikes can be hired to tour the island and there are many fine restaurants on Coronado itself.
